SUMMARY:Africa Energy Forum - Cape Town
DESCRIPTION:For the first time in its 27 years\, the Africa Energy Forum (aef) is being hosted in Cape Town\, South Africa under the enchanting shadow of Table Mountain and in the heart of one of the most active energy development centres in Africa. \nUnder the theme 'Africa United'\, aef will also provide a strong platform to bring African stakeholders together with a united voice and declare what Africa wants and needs to the world. This will be the perfect opportunity to amplify the message from aef to the G20 meetings hosted by South Africa this year. \naef 2025 will see the return of the aef Africa Cup Football Tournament. Delegates will be invited to a once in a lifetime opportunity to play a match at the DHL stadium. \nLooking into the future\, aef is building its legacy with YES! (Youth Energy Summit).  To electrify the continent of 1.5 billion people\, home to the world's fastest-growing youth population\, it is essential to include Africa’s young people in the conversation. With 4\,000 youth attending\, the support of South Africa's IPP Office and the home-grown success story - Pele Green\, YES! will be the biggest and most impactful gathering of youth in the energy sector worldwide!

SUMMARY:Lesotho Energy Access Dialogue (LEAD) - Maseru
DESCRIPTION:Lesotho's challenging terrain complicates efforts to provide universal energy access\, despite its significant untapped renewable energy potential. Effectively harnessing this potential could address the country's energy access gap in a sustainable and affordable way. \nThe Lesotho Energy Access Dialogue (LEAD) aims to support the country's efforts to solve its energy access issues and develop its renewable energy market by promoting renewable energy technologies and projects in Lesotho. \nThe Alliance for Rural Electrification and Energy Research Centre - National University of Lesotho will organise the first Lesotho Energy Access Dialogue (LEAD 2024) early 2025 in Maseru\, with a special focus on renewable energy. \nSupported by Renewable Lesotho\, a joint initiative of GET.invest Lesotho\, the European Union and other partners\, LEAD 2024 aims to boost clean energy generation\, energy efficiency\, and equitable access to energy while enhancing sector leadership and capacity.

SUMMARY:Tracking SDG 7: The Energy Progress Report 2025
DESCRIPTION:How many people around the world today still lack access to clean energy? And how many people still rely on dirty fossil fuels for cooking\, risking their health in consequence? Additionally\, how much international funds have been flowing to the developing countries in support of their clean energy development? \nThe answers to these questions are related to the targets set forth in the UN Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 7\, which aims to ensure universal access to affordable\, reliable\, sustainable and modern energy by 2030. \nJoin the virtual briefing to learn more about the latest data that will be revealed in the new Tracking SDG 7: The Energy Progress Report 2025. \nWhile progress has been made\, it is marked by wide regional disparities\, underscoring the urgency for more impact-driven financing support from the international community to developing countries. \nKey trends ahead of the data release include: \n- Access to electricity has increased\, but progress is uneven across the world.\n- Progress is lagging on universal access to clean cooking.\n- Renewable energy continued to grow. But installed renewable capacity per capita shows geographic disparities.\n- Energy intensity declined but the energy efficiency rate needs major improvement.\n- International public financial flows to developing countries in support of clean energy increased compared to previous years.\n- The report is a product of close collaboration among the five SDG 7 custodian agencies. \nPlease check the agencies’ websites and social media accounts on 25 June for the full report: \n- International Energy Agency (IEA): www.iea.org\n- International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA): www.irena.org\n- United Nations Statistics Division (UNSD): https://unstats.un.org/UNSDWebsite\n- World Bank: https://trackingsdg7.esmap.org/\n- World Health Organization (WHO): www.who.int \nThe report will also be presented to decision-makers at a special launch event on 16 July 2025 at 1:15pm EDT at the High-Level Political Forum (HLPF) on Sustainable Development in New York\, open to registered HLPF participants and anyone with a United Nations ground pass\, and livestreamed at webtv.un.org.
