SUMMARY:Shine Power to the People Webinar #2
DESCRIPTION:Women-led\, community-driven renewable energy access improves livelihoods\, wellbeing\, and climate resilience while bolstering women’s leadership. \n \nThe Shine Collab invites you to the second installment of their Power to the People Webinar Series: How Community-Led\, Decentralized Renewable Energy Enables Gender and Climate Justice Solutions on Wednesday\, 30 October at 3-5pm CAT | 1-3pm GMT | 9-11am EDT. \nCentering power and rights as a vital transition consideration\, this framework asks ‘whose interests matter in a transition?” and “what are we transitioning from and to?” Equally important\, what is the role of communities and how does energy fit into strategies to build women’s power and community wellbeing? What exactly is the link between decentralized\, democratized energy access and climate justice and resilience? Solar energy can be used for various applications\, such as lighting\, heating\, cooling\, pumping\, cooking\, and generating electricity. Solar energy can also provide clean and affordable energy access to rural and remote areas that are not connected to the national grid. \nThe government of Tanzania has enacted several policies and initiatives to promote the development and deployment of solar energy in the country. The private sector has played a key role in driving the growth and innovation of solar energy in Tanzania. Several local and international companies have invested in solar projects\, products\, and services for residential\, commercial\, industrial\, and institutional customers. These include solar home systems\, solar lanterns\, solar water heaters\, solar water pumps\, solar refrigerators\, solar dryers\, solar cookers\, solar street lights\, solar mini-grids\, and grid-connected solar power plants. The development and deployment of solar energy in Tanzania has been supported by various financing mechanisms and partnerships involving public and private actors.

SUMMARY:RENPOWER Mozambique
DESCRIPTION:The leading platform for the Mozambican renewable energy market is back\, the Seventh edition of RENPOWER Mozambique – Catalyzing the Just-Energy Transition and a Sustainable Energy Economy\, which will be hosted in Maputo\, Mozambique on 12 of September 2024. \nGreat future ahead for those looking to invest in Mozambique’s energy transition. \nJoin us to understand the market and network with key stakeholders of the public and private sector!\nJunte-se a nós e faça parte da conversa! \nDate: 12 of September\nTime: 09:00 – 17:30 hrs\nPlace: Maputo\, Mozambique (in-person)\nLanguages: Portuguese and English (simultaneous translation\, tradução simultânea) \nLarge scale renewable projects are becoming a point of interest for investment in Mozambique. The entity in charge of promoting renewable energy access\, FUNAE\, projects that IPP capacity of on-grid RE sources will increase to 575 MW by 2030. And the numbers will only increase as Mozambique seeks to leverage its abundant renewable resources and the government estimates that it will require $80 billion USD of public and private investment between now and 2050 . \nWith the unveiling of the Just Energy Transition Strategy (JETS) early this year\, Mozambique is setting the roadmap to attract new investment and create strategic partnerships by focusing on key four pillars:\n1. Modernizing the Energy Mix with more Renewables\,\n2. Fast-tracking to a Green Industrialization\,\n3. Universal Access to Modern Energy\, and\n4. Adopting Clean Transport.\nAll aligned with the global clean energy agenda in combating climate change. \nAs a developing country\, less than 53% of its population have access to energy. Off and On Grid solutions combined with Renewables – Solar\, Wind\, Hydro + Storage – will play a pivotal role in reaching Universal Electrification and assist in the country’s growing economy by becoming a regional green energy hub. \nMozambique’s implementation of the JETS will require major investments in new technologies associated with the creation of a Green Hydrogen market\, infrastructure and equipment costs\, regulatory reforms\, as well as the digitalization and training of talent to positively impact the energy transition. \nCome prepared to NETWORK!

SUMMARY:Webinar: Accelerating clean energy access in Africa by unlocking the catalysing potential of carbon finance
DESCRIPTION:Although 2023 saw record renewable energy deployment with the sector reaching a total capacity of 3\,870 GW\, growth is still unevenly distributed. Asia\, particularly China\, accounts for most of this expansion. In contrast\, Africa\, where 600 million people (43% of the population) still lack access to energy and almost a billion lack access to clean cooking\, saw a mere 4.6% increase in renewable energy capacity (reaching a total capacity of 62 GW). \n\nTo achieve SDG7 by 2030\, at least 90 million people will need to gain access to electricity\, which means tripling the current rate of connectivity. Additionally\, not only energy investment will need to double within this decade\, but given climate emergency\, we will need to ensure such investment goes towards clean and renewable energy.\nThe panel will discuss the main challenges and opportunities in designing innovative climate financial approaches to ensure that energy efficiency and renewable energy companies\, particularly those in the solar sector\, can access the vital investment needed to scale and grow to meet SDG7.\n\nIn particular\, the panellists will examine the catalytic role that carbon markets can play in accelerating the flow of climate finance and international capital into the continent and its potential to de-risk renewable energy investments more broadly. This could open up new sustainable economic opportunities to the African continent\, and on some cases even promote the development of new sectors in the continent such as the export of green hydrogen\, given the abundant renewable energy resources that exist in the region.\n\n\n\n\nModerator: Susie Wheeldon\, Head of Communications\, GOGLA \n\nPanellists:\n\n\nRosalie Marsden\, Senior Associate\, Acumen \nWilliam Brent\, CMO\, Husk Power Systems (Minigrids - Nigeria)\nDennis Nderitu\, Energy Systems Manager\, Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet\nPablo Fernandez\, CEO\, ecosecurities
