SUMMARY:Webinar: Success stories in solar-powered agriculture
DESCRIPTION:On the occasion of the launch of the Coalition for Action report “Solar-powered Agri-food Systems: Seven Success Stories”\, this webinar will bring together stakeholders from the energy and agriculture sectors to explore evidence from real-world case studies on business models\, financing mechanisms\, and enabling policy conditions that support the scaling of renewables in agriculture. \nAgri-food systems are a major consumer of energy\, primarily derived from fossil fuels\, while also being highly susceptible to the impacts of climate change. Transforming both food and energy systems is essential to achieve universal access to nutritious food and affordable energy in alignment with climate and nature goals. Agrivoltaics – the dual land use for solar PV and agricultural production – is an effective tool to address these interconnected challenges. Participants will share practical experiences that highlight the importance of user-centric business models tailored to local circumstances.

SUMMARY:Webinar: Energy-as-a-Service - Scaling EaaS across the off-grid solar sector
DESCRIPTION:Although cash sales and PAYGo models have provided Tier 1 electricity access across rural sub-Saharan Africa\, they remain unaffordable to\, and are not reaching\, the poorest and most remote communities. Energy-as-a-Service (EaaS) presents an alternative approach by spreading costs over a longer time period and guaranteeing sustained energy access for customers. While EaaS is a well-established business model in developed markets and in commercial and industrial applications\, its use as a service delivery model for first-time household electrification is still relatively nascent. This webinar series will present findings from an independent evaluation of EaaS for first-time rural electrification\, commissioned by Energy Saving Trust and delivered by Greencroft Economics\, and explore how the model can be scaled to reach underserved populations. \n \nWebinar 2: Scaling EaaS Across the Off-Grid Solar Sector\nThe second webinar will focus on the enabling conditions required to scale EaaS across the off-grid solar sector. It will explore how to structure public and blended finance to support EaaS\, and how to define performance metrics that align with government\, donor\, and private finance objectives and ensure accountability. The session will feature insights from interviews with over 20 sector experts and their perspectives on operational delivery structures\, and risk mitigation strategies. It will also present recommendations for policymakers\, donors\, and companies seeking to pilot or expand EaaS initiatives\, and consider how EaaS can complement existing electrification strategies.

This webinar series will present findings from an independent evaluation of EaaS for first-time rural electrification\, commissioned by Energy Saving Trust and delivered by Greencroft Economics\, and explore how the model can be scaled to reach underserved populations. \n \nWebinar 1: Learning from SolarAid’s Light a Village Pilot in Malawi\nThe first webinar will introduce the EaaS model and draw on lessons from SolarAid’s Light a Village pilot in Malawi\, which delivered universal\, first-time electricity access to rural households in an area where 97% of population had no prior electricity access. In this pilot\, SolarAid is responsible for installation\, maintenance\, and customer service\, while households and schools pay a nominal daily fee to activate their system. The pilot has been funded through several phases by a range of partners\, including through the national Ngwee Ngwee Ngwee Fund. The session will present key findings from the pilot\, drawing on operational lessons and customer usage / payment data. It will also delve into insights around affordability\, utilisation and sustainability\, based on the research report’s analysis of how EaaS can be designed to maximise cost-effectiveness and impact. \nSpeakers: \nLaura Fortes\, GOGLA\nJakub Vrba\, Energy Saving Trust\nEd Day\, Greencroft Economics\nDaphne Pit\, Greencroft Economics\nBrave Mhonie\, SolarAid\nAustin Theu\, Government of Malawi\nMfumu Kuseni\, GIZ / EnDev Malawi

SUMMARY:Webinar: PURE Growth Fund Insights
DESCRIPTION:REEEP will host a public webinar on 22 January 2026 to present key findings from the first application window of the PURE Growth Fund\, our results-based financing programme supporting clean energy SMEs and agribusinesses in Tanzania. \n\nLaunched in May 2025\, the PURE Growth Fund is a modified results-based financing programme designed to accelerate the uptake of Productive Use of Renewable Energy (PURE) technologies. PURE Growth supports small and medium-sized enterprises to scale clean energy solutions that improve productivity\, incomes and resilience across agrifood value chains in Tanzania.\n\nThe first funding window generated exceptionally strong interest\, attracting more than 50 applications from Tanzanian and international companies. \nCollectively\, applicants requested nearly nine times the funding available\, highlighting both the scale of demand for results-based capital and the ambition of enterprises operating in Tanzania’s clean energy and agribusiness sectors. \n\n\n\n  \nThe application process has provided REEEP with a rich dataset and valuable insights into: \n\nPriority sectors and targeted value chains\nBusiness models and technology approaches\nGender split within applicant companies\nThe geographic distribution of applicant companies\nBroader market trends\, opportunities and constraints\n\nThe webinar will also introduce the PURE Impact Index — a new metric developed by REEEP to systematically compare and reward the economic\, social and service-level performance of SMEs deploying PURE solutions. The PII enables consistent assessment across diverse technologies\, business models and value chains\, and plays a central role in PURE Growth’s results-based approach. \nTo share these insights with partners\, practitioners and policymakers\, join us on: \nDate: 22 January 2026\nTime: 1:00 – 2:30 pm CEST / 3:00 – 4:30 pm EAT \nDuring the session\, the PURE Growth Fund team will present a detailed analysis of the application results and discuss what they reveal about the current PURE market landscape in Tanzania. \n

SUMMARY:Webinar - The path to universal energy access in an era of shrinking aid
DESCRIPTION:Achieving universal energy access looks more challenging than ever. Faced with geopolitical and domestic pressures\, traditional donor countries\, including the United States\, the UK\, France\, and Germany have slashed their aid budgets and redirected their focus to defence and deficit reduction. \nWhat does this mean for the 600-plus million people who remain without electricity in Africa? \nThe answers are complex. African governments and private sector representatives are seeking to reduce reliance on foreign aid\, emphasising home-grown solutions to further electrification as a key step to improve the lives of Africans. Additionally. whilst aid from western nations is declining\, there are signs that countries from across the Middle East and Asia are stepping up to bridge the gap\, raising questions about the political influence they may seek in return. \nIf you find these issues fascinating\, join the panel of experts to exchange knowledge and chart the way forward for rural electrification and universal energy access in Africa. \nMain themes in this webinar: \n\nFind out how governments across Africa are adapting to achieve universal energy access on their own terms\nUnderstand the role of renewable energy and decentralised models in bolstering electrification and economic development across the continent\nLearn more about commercially sustainable models that seek to accelerate the rate of electrification whilst reducing reliance on aid and subsidies.\n\n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\nAnita Otubu \n\n\n\n\nSenior Director\nUEF at SEforALL \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOlamide Niyi-Afuye \n\n\n\n\nChief Executive Officer\nAMDA

SUMMARY:Webinar: Building gender-inclusive PURE business models
DESCRIPTION:Women are essential yet often invisible drivers of economic activity across developing regions\, comprising 40% of the global agricultural workforce and 58% of Africa's self-employed population. Despite their significant contributions\, women face persistent barriers in accessing and benefiting from Productive Use of Renewable Energy (PURE) technologies. \nJoin GOGLA for an insightful webinar to discover how innovative companies are transforming their business models to better serve women's energy needs while building sustainable businesses. \nIn this webinar\, you'll understand why women represent only one-third of PURE technology end-users despite their economic significance\, along with the transformative impact when this gap is addressed. We'll explore how customer personas serve as powerful tools for developing gender-smart business models by mapping women's unique needs\, constraints\, and aspirations across different segments—from subsistence farmers to growth-oriented entrepreneurs. This user-centered approach helps companies identify critical pain points and opportunities throughout the customer journey\, informing everything from product design to marketing strategies and support services. \nDrawing on existing literature and real-world examples of gender-smart approaches that work\, including Oorja's "Farming as a Service" and Agsol's women-friendly solar mills designed for lightweight operation and small batch processing\, this webinar will present a framework for creating gender-smart businesses across the entire customer journey. SUMMARY:AECE2-ESMAP webinar on Energy for Jobs
DESCRIPTION:Join this webinar hosted by the World Bank’s Kenya Country Office and ESMAP on opportunities for creation of sustainable jobs in Eastern and Southern Africa (AFE) . They will explore the opportunities and challenges in accelerating access to energy\, expanding economic opportunities and creating sustainable jobs in the agriculture and livestock sectors. \n \nThis webinar brings together agriculture and energy practitioners to explore how to unlock transformation in the Agri-food systems. Agriculture accounts for 56 percent of total employment in Eastern and Southern Africa (AFE). Improving productivity in agriculture\, livestock\, and fisheries\, and supporting approaches that allow smallholder farmers\, livestock producers\, and fish producers to move up the value chains is critical. However\, the lack of reliable energy access in these rural areas presents a major barrier to economic activity and job creation\, and to the expansion of benefits to smallholder farmers. In these rural areas\, accelerated access to energy needed to achieve economic growth and job creation can only happen through distributed renewable energy (DRE) solutions\, such as solar home systems\, micro-grids\, and mini-grids. \nDuring this webinar\, you will learn firsthand from practitioners about distributed renewable energy (DRE) solutions\, how DRE facilitates higher productivity in agriculture and livestock value chains\, and how it enables sustainable job creation. We will hear about experiences to accelerate the expansion of access to energy in AFE\, South Asia and beyond. We will discuss what has worked\, what has not\, and how successful approaches can be replicated and scaled up. \nThe event will be chaired by Qimiao Fan\, Division Director for Kenya\, Rwanda\, Somalia\, and Uganda at the World Bank. The presentation will be given by Dana Rysankova\, Lead Energy Specialist at the World Bank. Closing remarks will be delivered by Fanny Missfeldt-Ringius\, Practice Manager at ESMAP\, World Bank. The panelists include: \n- Kasozí Tondo James\, Principal Engineer at the Ministry of Agriculture\, Animal Industry and Fisheries\, Uganda \n- Amanullah Alamzai\, Senior Agriculture Economist at the World Bank \n- Bas Hetterschied\, Manager Partnerships at Wageningen University & Research (WUR)

SUMMARY:Webinar: Accelerating clean energy access in Africa by unlocking the catalysing potential of carbon finance
DESCRIPTION:Although 2023 saw record renewable energy deployment with the sector reaching a total capacity of 3\,870 GW\, growth is still unevenly distributed. Asia\, particularly China\, accounts for most of this expansion. In contrast\, Africa\, where 600 million people (43% of the population) still lack access to energy and almost a billion lack access to clean cooking\, saw a mere 4.6% increase in renewable energy capacity (reaching a total capacity of 62 GW). \n\nTo achieve SDG7 by 2030\, at least 90 million people will need to gain access to electricity\, which means tripling the current rate of connectivity. Additionally\, not only energy investment will need to double within this decade\, but given climate emergency\, we will need to ensure such investment goes towards clean and renewable energy.\nThe panel will discuss the main challenges and opportunities in designing innovative climate financial approaches to ensure that energy efficiency and renewable energy companies\, particularly those in the solar sector\, can access the vital investment needed to scale and grow to meet SDG7.\n\nIn particular\, the panellists will examine the catalytic role that carbon markets can play in accelerating the flow of climate finance and international capital into the continent and its potential to de-risk renewable energy investments more broadly. This could open up new sustainable economic opportunities to the African continent\, and on some cases even promote the development of new sectors in the continent such as the export of green hydrogen\, given the abundant renewable energy resources that exist in the region.\n\n\n\n\nModerator: Susie Wheeldon\, Head of Communications\, GOGLA \n\nPanellists:\n\n\nRosalie Marsden\, Senior Associate\, Acumen \nWilliam Brent\, CMO\, Husk Power Systems (Minigrids - Nigeria)\nDennis Nderitu\, Energy Systems Manager\, Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet\nPablo Fernandez\, CEO\, ecosecurities
