GSMA Innovation Fund for Green Transition for Mobile

  • by Wim Jonker Klunne

The GSMA Innovation Fund for Green Transition for Mobile is open for applications until 6th April. The objective of the fund is to support organisations using mobile and digital solutions with a focus on either:

·       Clean energy access: Digitally enabled energy solutions that improve the affordability, reliability and productive use of renewable energy - particularly models that strengthen energy access for underserved communities. These could include but are not limited to: supporting the productive use of energy solutions, smart metering and energy efficiency solutions, small scale mini-grid or mesh grid models and other renewable energy solutions.

·       Mobile device circularity: Innovative business models that extend the lifespan of mobile phones and improve handset affordability through repair and refurbishment. The fund will support responsible e-waste collection and recycling.

GSMA is providing support to small and growing enterprises/startups from Africa, Central and South America or South and Southeast Asia with grant funding of between £100,000 – £200,000 that leverage mobile and digital technologies (including AI) to have a positive impact on the lives of people in LMICs.

The deadline for application submission is Monday, 6th April 2026.  GSMA hosted a webinar to share more information about the Fund and address questions from applicants; you can access the recorded message here.
