Today marked the official launch of the "Putting Energy to Work" project in Malawi. With co-financing from the European Union, this initiative represents a significant stride towards fostering sustainable growth and inclusivity through the promotion of Productive Use of Energy (PUE).
During the launch event, Ibrahim Matola, Minister of Energy of Malawi, shared his perspective on the importance of this project. He emphasised the critical role of renewable energy in income generation and acknowledged the pressing need for expanded access to clean energy, especially in light of climate change impacts experienced by the country.
Rune Skinnebach, the EU Ambassador to Malawi, highlighted the project's alignment with the Malawi Vision 2063 and praised the collaborative efforts between the EU and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development.
German Ambassador to Malawi, Ute König, underscored the project's role in advancing inclusivity and sustainable development. “As a woman, I’m particularly happy to see that strong efforts are being made to ensure that the programme leaves no one behind, considering and including especially women, youth and people with disabilities.”
In addition, the launch officially introduced the project’s Results-based Financing (RBF) facility, managed by EnDev's implementing partner, United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF).
The launch of the 'Putting Energy to Work' project signified a crucial milestone in our collective journey to raise awareness and leverage the potential of productive energy in Malawi.
